With the intricate distressing of an iconic garment, Raquel Allegra swathes her cult
following in unapologetic comfort and modern romanticism. Born in Berkeley, CA to artisan
parents, the designer’s childhood encouraged a personal creative process of instinct, experiment
and play. Raquel first gained a following for her deconstructed t-shirts while working as a sales
associate for Barney's Beverly Hills. Largely influenced by her environment and social
interactions, she was inspired to new levels of creativity as she took cues from the desires of her
discerning clients that were always looking to emulate her unique sense of style. Raquel’s
instincts in design and style seem to be perfectly aligned with that of the collective interests of her
brands’ devoted followers. In creating the shredding technique that has become synonymous with
the namesake label, Raquel Allegra has introduced elegance to the once, basic tee. Full length
webbed cocoon shapes evolved out of laborious experiments with oversized vintage shirts
recycled from the Los Angeles County Prison System. The ethereal and informal beauty of the
pieces has garnered instant admiration from celebrities, editors, stylists and savvy consumers
from Los Angeles to Beirut.
2009 marked a maturation for the brand as the collection expanded to include richly
textured pieces in deerskin, linen, cashmere and French lace. With 7 seasons of production thus
far, the Raquel Allegra label is found internationally in boutiques such as Barney's NY, Lane
Crawford, Liberty of London, and Harvey Nichols. The designer continues to evolve and deliver a
highly personal body of work while continuing to establish herself as a force in the global retail
market.
